Macedonian Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski visits China

 A delegation of the Ministry of Defence led by Minister Zoran Jolevski  pays several day visit to the  People's Republic of China.

During his visit, Jolevski  met Chinese Defence Minister General Chang Wanquan , Macedonian Defence Ministry said in a press release.

On Monday's meeting in Beijing the Ministers of Defence of Macedonia and the People's Republic of China, Zoran Jolevski and General Chang Wanquan, concluded that the relations and cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and the People's Republic of China are at a very high level and assessed them as excellent. At the same time the two ministers said that they are determined to continue to work intensively on the further strengthening and improving of the cooperation in the defence sector.

"The Republic of Macedonia is determined to deepen the bilateral cooperation with the People's Republic of China in the field of defence and to develop it in a spirit of friendship and support", said Jolevski at the meeting. The relations with the PR of China, added the minister, are moving upwards from year to year, which is confirmed by the numerous meetings at the highest level. Cooperation in the field of defence is part of the overall bilateral relations and contributes to its further strengthening. On the meeting Minister Jolevski expressed gratitude for the support of the PR of China, which includes military training and education of staff. It was agreed to exchange experiences on the participation in UN peacekeeping missions, where China is one of the largest contributors.

Additionally, Minister Jolevski expressed satisfaction that members of the Chinese Armed Forces take part in courses at the Public Affairs Regional Centre in the Ministry of Defence, as well as at the International Summer Campus.

Also, during the visit of the PR of China, Minister Jolevski also visited the National Defence University, where he emphasized that his priority is the improvement of military education in the Republic of Macedonia. "The transformation of the Military Academy into a University of National Defence and Security is under way, and simultaneously we are introducing part of the studies in the 3rd and 4th year of the academy in English language", said Minister Jolevski at the meeting in the University.

During the visit Minister Jolevski also held a meeting with the management of one of the largest Chinese companies, "Poly Group", which has significant investments in Europe and in the region in the areas of energy, infrastructure, construction and mining. Initial interest was expressed by this company for investments in Macedonia in the field of infrastructure and energy through public-private partnership.

During the visit Minister Jolevski will  also visit the Academy for Special Operations, where he will be introduced with its capacities and possibilities for cooperation in the field of Special Forces.

The Republic of Macedonia and the PR of China have been cooperating in the field of defence since 2004 when the Agreement for Cooperation was signed. It includes cooperation in the field of military science and technology, education and training, culture, sports and other areas.
