2014-09-25

The Skopje-based Confucius Institute marked Wednesday the Global Confucius Institute Day, the 10. anniversary from the establishment of the first Confucius institute and the first anniversary of the institute within university "St.Cyril and Methodius" with open classes for Chinese language instruction, calligraphy and Tai Chi Chuan.

The Skopje institute is among the 440 such centers in 120 countries worldwide, opened for the purpose of learning the Chinese language and culture.

"Today marks one year of this significant and successful step for Skopje and Chengdu universities, but also for China and Macedonia", said Skopje University Rector Velimir Stojkovski, adding that 60 students are learning the Chinese language at the center.

Chinese Ambassador to Macedonia Wen Zhenshun said these institutes promote the country's culture and civilization.

"I am glad to see increasing interest among Macedonian citizens for Chinese culture. I thank the Rector, the institute leadership and staff, as well as all volunteers who have contributed to the center's success", added Wen.

He stressed that bilateral cooperation requires knowledge of countries' languages and cultures, whereas the Confucius Institute was the bridge linking Macedonia and China.
