On December 13, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong of Cambodia, who was in China for a working visit. Both sides exchanged views on developing bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

Wang Yi said that China-Cambodia traditional friendship remains unshakable and becomes even firmer as time goes by. Both countries have become good friends with high-level mutual trust and good partners with all sincerity. China thanks the Cambodian side for adhering to principles and upholding justice on issues concerning China's major interests, and will firmly support Cambodia to follow a development path that conforms to its own national conditions. China is willing to continuously provide assistance within its own capacity for Cambodia's national construction.

Wang Yi expressed that under personal concern and joint efforts of leaders of both countries, China-Cambodia relations continue to maintain a good momentum of rapid development. In particular, this October, President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Cambodia, and reached new important consensus with King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Sen on promoting bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation, which shows China's diplomatic tradition of valuing and supporting old friends.

Wang Yi noted that Cambodia will host the second foreign ministers' meeting on Lancang-Mekong River cooperation next week. China pays high attention to Cambodia's important role in promoting Lancang-Mekong River cooperation, and is willing to, together with Cambodia, conduct close cooperation, ensure the success of the foreign ministers' meeting this time, implement the results of the first leaders' meeting on Lancang-Mekong River cooperation and facilitate the continuous deepening of Lancang-Mekong River cooperation, so as to bring tangible benefits to people of all countries in the sub-region.

Hor Namhong expressed that attaching great importance to bilateral traditional friendship as well as to developing Cambodia-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, Cambodia sincerely thanks China's selfless assistance in its economic and social development. The country is willing to work with China to earnestly implement high-level consensus, actively promote practical cooperation and continuously enhance multilateral coordination to effectively safeguard common interests. The Cambodian side thanks China for its strong support to the foreign ministers' meeting on Lancang-Mekong River cooperation chaired by Cambodia, and believes the meeting will certainly achieve expected positive results.
