Li Keqiang Holds Talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia

On the morning of May 16, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang held talks at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia, who was in China for an official visit as well as the attendance at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF).

Li Keqiang expressed that the China-Cambodia traditional friendship was forged jointly and cultivated carefully by the older generation of leaders of the two parties, which becomes even firmer as time goes by. President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Cambodia last year and carried forward China-Cambodia friendship in the new international political and economic situation. China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges and strategic communication with Cambodia, deepen practical cooperation, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, in a bid to better benefit the two peoples and all peoples in the region.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese government is committed to comprehensively enhancing the level of cooperation between China and Cambodia and is ready to speed up the docking of development strategy and promote bilateral trade quality and quantity. China will focus on production capacity, investment, agriculture and other key cooperation projects, thus helping Cambodia in the economic and social development as well as improvement of people's livelihood. The two sides can deepen cooperation in national defense and law enforcement and strengthen communication in such fields as education, tourism, cultural relic protection, medical treatment and public health.

Li Keqiang stressed that 2018 will be the 15th anniversary of China's strategic partnership with the ASEAN and Cambodia will host the second Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders' Meeting. China supports Cambodia to play a positive role via some relevant regional and sub-regional platforms and stands ready to make joint efforts with Cambodia and all parties concerned to focus on cooperation, seek common development and create a community of shared destiny with peace, stability and shared prosperity in this region.

Hun Sen said that cherishing the traditional friendship between the two countries, Cambodia stands ready to, together with China, well implement the consensuses reached, maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen cooperation in a wide range of areas such as trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, water conservancy, science, technology, tourism, law enforcement, and security, and intensify communication and coordination in regional and international affairs, in a bid to promote Cambodia-China friendship to new stages. The Cambodian side congratulates on the complete success of the BRF. Cambodia is willing to proactively promote the in-depth development of ASEAN-China relations and the LMC, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability as well as prosperity and development.

Before the talks, Li Keqiang held a welcoming ceremony for Hun Sen at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Chen Xiaoguang and others attended the event.

After the talks, Chinese Premier and Cambodian Prime Minister jointly witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents covering the docking of bilateral development strategies, economic technology, infrastructure construction and other areas.

On the morning of the same day, Hun Sen laid wreaths at the Monument to the People's Heroes.
