On August 6, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhon of Cambodia before attending the series of Foreign Ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation in Manila, the Philippines.

Wang Yi noted that China and Cambodia boast profound friendship and enjoy high mutual trust. China firmly supports Cambodia in marching on the road suitable for its own situation and is willing to take the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Cambodia diplomatic relations next year to further expand practical cooperation and make China-Cambodia friendship more deeply rooted in people’s hearts. The Chinese side hopes to well hold Foreign Ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation together with Cambodia and other ASEAN countries to objectively reflect the positive ongoing changes of the region currently, to send an objective and sensible voice to the world and to show the world a more predictable and brighter prospect. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN. China will as always support the integration progress of the ASEAN, support the construction of the ASEAN community and back ASEAN’s central role in regional cooperation. He thanked Cambodia for actively supporting China in the “Belt and Road” initiative and believed that the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative will explore new space for China-ASEAN cooperation and open up a new prospect.

Prak Sokhon said that Cambodia-China relations remain fairly close. The Cambodian side will continue to fully maintain close Cambodia-China cooperation. He expressed gratitude to China’s congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN and thanked China for its consistent and firm support on ASEAN’s development. It’s glad to see the great achievements of cooperation made in various fields between the ASEAN and China. The Cambodian side stands ready to continue intensify cooperation with China, eliminate interference and make its own efforts to maintain the sound development of ASEAN-China relations. Cambodia actively supports the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, which will not only benefit its own national development, but also strengthen the connectivity between the ASEAN and the world at large so as to promote the common development and prosperity of the countries in this region.
