Philippine Foreign Secretary Teodoro Lopez Locsin Highly Praises China-Philippines Relations and China's Development

2019-03-20

On March 20, 2019, when jointly meeting the press with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Lopez Locsin of the Philippines introduced the achievements and feelings of his first visit to China.

Teodoro Lopez Locsin expressed that the Philippines and China have always been friendly and never been enemies. President Rodrigo Duterte and President Xi Jinping have shown mutual respect to each other and forged profound friendship, laying a solid foundation for the revitalization of the Philippines-China relations. There have been achievements in cooperation between the Philippines and China, and differences yet to be resolved. The two sides should set aside their differences, and maintain the strong development of bilateral relations to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Rather than differences, cooperation is worth fighting for.

Teodoro Lopez Locsin said that I was amazed but not surprised by China's development. All these are the fruits of the unremitting efforts of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Former President Thomas Jefferson of the United States once said that the power of the people is inexhaustible, but it needs a guiding hand. The Western democratic system does not have that hand, but the CPC does. No other political party in the world can provide direction for the country's development than the CPC. The CPC has always attached great importance to self-criticism and self-innovation, especially to anti-corruption. Therefore, it has always maintained its credibility and vitality and become the source impetus for China's development.

Teodoro Lopez Locsin said that I saw hope in China's rise, and I saw China's aspirations to help other countries prosper and develop together. China is the first country in history that does not develop itself at the expense of other countries. The rise of China has rekindled the hope of development for small countries in the world and given them a new opportunity for mutually beneficial cooperation. The Belt and Road Initiative put forward by the Chinese side is a process in which China promotes the development of other countries through its own development. In this sense, China's future and the future of other countries are interconnected.

Teodoro Lopez Locsin expressed that both the Philippines and China oppose external interference in their internal affairs. The Philippine side is ready to work with the Chinese side to further deepen bilateral relations in the spirit of mutual respect, sincerity and friendship, play its role and shoulder its responsibilities in international affairs and jointly create a more peaceful and prosperous new world.
