Li Keqiang Holds a Dialogue with Representatives of Business, Finance, Media and Think Tanks Attending the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2019


On the afternoon of March 28, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang held a dialogue in Boao of Hainan Province with representatives of business, finance, media and think tanks attending the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2019. More than 200 personages from various countries and various circles were present.

Chairman of AstraZeneca of the United Kingdom Leif Johansson expressed in his speech that the strong will of the Chinese government to commit to promoting reform and opening up is exciting. As a pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca is willing to take China as an important part of its global strategy and it hopes to learn about the Chinese government's policies and measures in medicines and healthcare.

Li Keqiang noted that adhering to reform and opening up is the independent choice of the Chinese people. Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, the Chinese people have enjoyed tangible benefits, and China will only open its door wider and wider. There is large potential in the Chinese medical market, and you are welcome to expand research input here to develop safe medicines suitable for the Chinese people. The Chinese government treats all domestic and foreign enterprises equally and protects intellectual property rights in accordance with the law. China will take measures to drastically reduce the time for medicines to be approved and put on the market to benefit patients as soon as possible.

On relations between China and the United States (US), Executive Vice President of US Chamber of Commerce Myron Brilliant said that the two sides should strengthen cooperation, enhance mutual trust, reach an agreement on economic and trade issues at an early date, and ensure the effective implementation of the agreement.

Li Keqiang expressed that over the past 40 years, China-US relations have made historic progress despite ups and downs, bringing huge benefits to the two peoples and making important contributions to the peace, stability and development of the world. Although there are some differences between the two sides, dialogue and cooperation have always been the mainstream. In accordance with the consensus reached by the two heads of state, economic and trade teams of the two sides are making positive progress through multiple rounds of consultations. As long as the two sides adhere to the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, positive results will be achieved. This is not only in line with the interests of the two peoples, but also the common expectations of all countries in the world.

Chairman of Toyota of Japan Takeshi Uchiyamada, while pleasantly recalling Premier Li Keqiang's inspection to the company's Hokkaido branch during the visit to Japan last year, extended his wish to enhance cooperation with the Chinese automotive industry, with an emphasis on innovation cooperation in hydrogen-powered and autonomous vehicles.

Li Keqiang pointed out that as the new round of industrial and technological revolution unfolds, China is actively implementing an innovation-driven development strategy, promoting mass entrepreneurship and innovation, and cultivating new economic driving forces. China is accelerating the development of new industries such as artificial intelligence, self-driving and hydrogen energy. Li Keqiang said that since the beginning of this year, China's economy has seen a steady performance, and market expectations have improved recently. With a population of nearly 1.4 billion and more than 100 million market entities, China will be able to maintain long-term sound development as long as it stimulates market and corporate vitality. A total of 2 trillion yuan in taxes will be cut this year and work will be strengthened. We must let enterprises enjoy benefits from tax cuts and make sure real benefits flow into enterprises' pockets. Arbitrary fees are forbidden, and punishment will be imposed once violations are found.

The dialogue was held in a warm atmosphere. Guests attending the dialogue spoke positively of Premier Li Keqiang's keynote speech delivered at the annual conference of the forum. They believed that it was an in-depth, candid and constructive dialogue that enhanced various parties' understanding on China's development and domestic and foreign policies.
