|Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan Attend a Horticultural Exhibition with Foreign Leaders and Their Spouses Attending the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 Beijing|
On April 28, 2019, President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan attended a horticultural exhibition in Yanqing District, Beijing with foreign leaders and their spouses coming for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 Beijing.
The China Pavilion of the Expo, situated by the Guirui Lake, is like a gentle Ruyi (a traditional Chinese jade ornament of good fortune), stretching along meadows and waters.
At around 7:00 p.m., Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan welcomed foreign leaders and their spouses in the lobby on the ground floor of the China Pavilion. They together watched the feature film of the Expo and took a group photo in front of the green feature wall of the Expo. Xi Jinping, Peng Liyuan, and foreign guests visited gardens featuring characteristic plants and unique gardening arts presented by ten provinces of the Northern and Northwest China. When they walked into the Beijing Garden, it came into view the Ruyi Gate in the traditional Beijing style quadrangle in bouquets of all kinds of flowers. The heritage and innovation of the gardening art is witnessed by old potted cinnamon trees, the living cultural relic from the Summer Palace, and a new species of low-temperature-resistant Chinese roses. In the Shaanxi Garden, the art of green sculpture, enjoying the reputation of the "three-dimensional drawing and silent poem", has greatly impressed the guests. The Garden of Xinjiang, known as "home to fruits and sweet melons" in China, shows at the gate plump pomegranate seeds sparking and closely embraced, symbolizing the close union of people of all nationalities in China. Fraxinus hupehensis, the King of Bonsai, exhibited in the Hubei Garden, shows the unique and vigorous Chinese bonsai culture.
With the idea of "life keeps growing in splendid China", the China Pavilion is divided into four exhibitions: Chinese ecological culture, provincial achievements in the gardening art industry, colleges, schools, and R&D institutions in gardening art, and the art of floral arrangement (an intangible cultural heritage). The China Pavilion is a "living" and "breathing" green architecture.
Xi Jinping watched the exhibitions and talked with the distinguished guests. Xi Jinping pointed out that the China Pavilion represents the rich regional cultures in China, tells beautiful stories in gardening art, and gathers the achievements of ecological conservation of China, which not only boasts wonderful gardening but also demonstrates China's willingness to pursue a green life and share the benefits of development with the rest of the world.
Foreign leaders repeatedly praised the achievements of China's ecological conservation and the craftsmanship of the landscape gardeners. They expressed their hopes to further enhance their communication and cooperation with China and jointly build a colorful and beautiful home planet.
Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan, together with the foreign guests, visited the comprehensive exhibition zones of the participating countries. They in sequence visited the gardens of Cambodia, the Czech Republic, Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Japan, Singapore, and Tajikistan. Gardens of the ten countries consist of their own national flowers and characteristic flowers and plants, which show the well-known cultural and natural landscapes of different countries and represent that the Expo would be a grand gathering aiming for friendly exchanges among people of the world and harmony between man and nature. Foreign guests expressed their gratitude to the Chinese side as the host for its great support for various countries to participate in the exhibition and they wished the Expo a great success.
Afterwards, Xi Jinping and foreign leaders attended the tree-planting ceremony called "together planting the oasis of friendship".
Clustered around by teenagers dressed up as the mascots of the Expo "Little Flower" and "Little Bud", Xi Jinping, Peng Liyuan, foreign leaders and their spouses walked to the outdoor lawn. Volunteers welcomed them, holding national flags of China and foreign countries as well as flags of the Expo. Xi Jinping and foreign leaders approached midget crabapples in the middle of the lawn, picked up the spades, stooped to earth up, and watered the saplings with wooden buckets. The Chinese and foreign leaders participating in the ceremony of "together planting the oasis of friendship" took a group photo to mark the occasion.
Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Hu Chunhua, Huang Kunming, Cai Qi, Wang Yi, Zhao Kezhi, and others attended the activities mentioned above.
