May 26, 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of China becoming the permanent observer to the Organization of American States (OAS). Recently. Foreign Minister Wang Yi and OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza exchanged congratulatory message and letter to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of relationship between the two sides.

Wang Yi said in his congratulatory message that since China became the permanent observer to the OAS, the bilateral relations have been enjoying a sound development. Among the OAS's observers in Asia, China has been making the greatest contribution to the OAS for many years. The China-OAS Cooperation Fund, human resource development and scholarship program and others have enriched the bilateral friendly cooperation and played a positive role in promoting regional stability and economic and social development of American States. China values OAS' influence in regional and international affairs and appreciates OAS' commitment to developing relations with China and upholding the "One-China" principle. China is willing to enhance dialogues and exchanges with the OAS and well implement the cooperative programs of the Fund to promote the further development of the bilateral relations.

Insulza said in his congratulatory letter that since becoming the permanent observer to the OAS, China has been actively committed to bilateral cooperation, and that both sides have become genuine cooperative partners. The Chinese government's help to the OAS is invaluable in strengthening the OAS' capability of fulfilling its responsibilities and ensuring that peoples of American States enjoy good governance, prosperity, peace and justice.
